From widespread river events to localised flash floods, the city has seen how rising water can upend daily life, damage homes, and strain vital infrastructure. For many residents, flood risk is not just a possibility but a recurring reality during storm season.   While large-scale flood mitigation often makes headlines, long-term protection also depends on targeted works already underway across the city. Civil contractors like ROBAR are helping strengthen Brisbane’s stormwater systems and reduce the impacts of heavy rainfall on homes, businesses, and essential infrastructure.   With experience delivering drainage infrastructure across Queensland and beyond, the team at ROBAR is working to be part of the solution. Through practical and well-executed civil works, we help build resilience into the places people live and work.   Supporting Flood Resilience Where It Counts  In a city shaped by waterways and rapid growth, flood resilience depends on infrastructure that can keep up with changing conditions. Many older suburbs face increasing pressure from runoff, while new developments require robust systems built to meet future demands.   ROBAR has delivered a number of drainage and stormwater projects in the Brisbane region designed to meet these challenges. At the Costco Bundamba retail precinct, we installed 4. 9 kilometres of stormwater pipework, including gross pollutant traps and road crossings, to manage runoff across a large commercial footprint. These upgrades play a key role in protecting the surrounding community and road network from flooding during heavy rain.   At... --- - Published: 2025-04-24 - Modified: 2025-05-26 - URL: https://robarcivil.com.au/news/how-civil-contractors-in-australia-are-building-stronger-communities/ - Categories: News Civil contractors in Australia are helping communities grow by delivering the roads, drainage, and transport infrastructure that people rely on every day. From road upgrades to new housing developments, this work supports how Australians move, build, and come together.   At ROBAR Civil, we believe civil construction is about more than materials and machinery. It’s about building the foundations for community wellbeing, creating safer streets, more accessible transport, and resilient services that support the future of local families and businesses.   Civil Infrastructure in Everyday Life Infrastructure upgrades improve more than just traffic flow or flood protection; they improve quality of life. Civil works benefit communities by:  Reducing travel times and easing congestion through upgraded roads and intersections Managing stormwater and flood risk with effective drainage and culvert systems Preparing residential areas with subdivision and bulk earthworks Improving access to schools, hospitals, public spaces, and employment hubs Take the Chandler Highway Upgrade in Victoria, where ROBAR Civil played a key role in widening the highway and restoring a heritage bridge. This not only improved daily commutes but also made walking and cycling safer, connecting families and neighbours across the suburb. Local Capability, Real Impact Civil projects demand more than technical know-how. They require a deep understanding of local needs, terrain, and community expectations.
